The Electronic Engineering Department was founded in 1982. Now it belongs to the School of Information Science and Technology. There are two undergraduate programs: "Biomedical Engineering" and "Electronic Information Science and Technology", two master and doctoral programs: " Circuit and System" and "Biomedical Engineering". The discipline of "Circuit and System" was evaluated as a Shanghai key discipline in 1996 and a state key discipline in 2001. The post-doctoral program s of "Electronic Science and Technology" and "Biomedical Engineering" were founded respectively in 1999 and 2003.

Our research work in the Medical Ultrasonic and the Cardio Pacemaker technology are very strong in China and to certain level known the world. The research work in the Artificial Intelligence and Neural Networks is famous in China . Our research also involves industry control, communications theory and technology, circuit theory and system, digital signal processing and transmit system, medical equipment, medical signal processing, medical image processing. Since 1998, our professors have undertaken many scientific research projects. Among them, some are state key projects; some are ministry, province, and civil projects. We they have obtained 12 items of science & technology awards at various levels, and published over 600 academic papers, including 142 SCI and/or EI papers, and 6 books. The achievements in education are also significant. Undergraduate and graduate students have achieved excellent scores in many state competition of electronic design.
In the Department, there is 1 institute: Biomedical Engineering Institute, 2 research centers: Digital Technology center and Biomedical Engineering center, 1 Experiment center: Electronics Teaching Experiment Center .
There is 1 member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 9 full professors (7 PHD advisors), 18 associate professors and senior engineers.
The 21st century is an information society sustained by modern electronic science.
